Karl Davidson dropped to his leanest ever in just 55 days – proving that getting lean first, not overeating, is the smartest way to build muscle
By Gary Chappell
KARL DAVIDSON took just 55 days to, in his words, become “the leanest I’ve ever been”.
Karl made the most of his diet plan, sticking to it “to the gram” consistently.
He wanted, initially, to get bigger/more muscular, a perfectly acceptable goal. And indeed, most people think the fastest way to build muscle is to eat more food. In reality, the opposite is often true.

Getting lean first improves:
- nutrient partitioning
- insulin sensitivity
- training efficiency
In simple terms, your body becomes far better at using food to build muscle rather than store fat.
Karl embraced this phase perfectly – and that is harder than most people realise. The mind plays tricks. You feel smaller in clothes, yet look bigger when you take your shirt off.
Many people struggle here. They assume they are losing muscle, when in reality they are simply losing body fat, water and glycogen.
Karl trusted the process – and it paid off. Now he has leaned up, Karl is looking forward to his building phase.
This is his journey. His work. His result.
